• Sid Peterson Regional Medical Center and our area doctors, nurses, first responders and dentists actively contribute to the health and safety of TLC and are in the thick of Covid-19 preparations and responses as we speak.
  
• Karen-Anne King, RN - TLC's VP of Summer Camps is also a RN and oversees TLC's health and safety operations for all personnel, campers, volunteers, visitors and guests.
• TLC corps of Staff Nurses - would you believe that every summer, TLC deploys 17-21 licensed staff nurses and volunteers who are active, practicing members of the medical field throughout the rest of the year?
• Former Campers and Staff Members - There are myriad former campers and staff members who are currently licensed medical professionals working in your communities and mine. They were born for a time such as this and have been trained well.
  

• Dr. Stephen Ponder - TLC's Medical Director for Diabetes Operations and a practicing member of the Scott & White medical system, headquartered in Temple, Texas.
• Dr. Peter Kwan - TLC's Associate Medical Director and a practicing member of the Houston medical system. Dr. Kwan just shipped out to New York for a four-week hitch with Samaritan's Purse, where a mobile relief and support center has been established in Central Park.
• Patsy Reyes, RN - Patsy is TLC's Medical Coordinator for Diabetes Services and works in the medical community in Corpus Christi, Texas.
• Diabetes Med Staff - Would you believe that TLC engages and deploys the talents of over 70 medical professionals, vendors and medical students every year for the diabetes operations at TLC? It is not unusual for the makeup of that group to be comprised of 10-17 licensed, practicing doctors, 3-6 nurses, 2-4 licensed dieticians, 2-3 pharmacists, 3-5 certified diabetic educators and med-techs, radiologists, specialist and med-students.
• Former Campers and Staff Members - As stated above, there are myriad former campers and staff members who are currently licensed, medical professionals working in your communities and mine. They were born for a time such as this and have been trained well.

• Texas Epilepsy Foundation, Camp Neuron - Camp Neuron offers a residential camping experience for children and teens living with epilepsy. They are joined and supported by myriad medical professionals serving on the front-lines in their respective field.
• Vision Works, Camp Discovery - This terrific organization provides services to about 150 campers per summer, who have cancer. They are joined and supported by myriad medical professionals serving on the front-lines of oncology and many others.
• Texas Burn Survivors - The mission of Texas Burn Survivor Society (TBSS) is to provide care, comfort, and essential services to the critically burned and their families. TBSS has created successful programs of patient support which have assisted thousands of burn and thermal injury survivors to achieve a successful return to normal and productive lives.
  They are joined and supported by myriad medical professionals and first responders serving on the front-lines in their respective fields.

As I reflect on our own TLC heroes, I am reminded that bravery is not the absence of fear, but taking definitive action despite being afraid. Our heroes are being tested and are performing admirably - they are running into the line-of-fire on a daily basis and are risking much on behalf of us all.
