Emerging Lions Leaders at TLCWednesday, March 29, 2023 - by Stephen S. MabryNews Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Texas Lions Camp, Inc. (830) 896-896-8500 | news@lionscamp.com From the Office of the President & CEO Stephen S. Mabry Emerging Lions Leaders at TLC
Kerrville, TX - March 29, 2023. During the weekend of March 23-28, 2023, TLC hosted the Emerging Lions Leadership Institute, and I was very impressed to see the caliber of some of our up-n-coming leaders in Lions. The weekend was a hands-on, intense “deep dive” not only into the inner workings of the Lions Association but in aspects of what constitutes and creates an effective Lions Club, interpersonal communications, assembling and leading teams and much more.
The weekend was in the very capable hands of PDG Chris Moorman, and the faculty was rounded off by Governor Paul Moore and Council Chair Elect-Elect, Cathy Summers, all of whom possess a wealth of knowledge and are excellent presenters. The faculty did an outstanding job of engaging the attendees and creating a very supportive atmosphere to spur attendees onto next steps in their journey of service to others. For Texas Lions Camp’s part, attendees were housed with a roommate in Jackson Dormitory while the faculty domiciled in the UL rooms of Units 7 &8. While it was my intention to allow ELLI to be the very first group to occupy the new Eagle Trail Cabins, to my great disappointment, that was not meant to be. Our attendees were nevertheless good sports however, and many commented on the fresh insights they gained as to how campers and summer staff members experience TLC firsthand. It so happened that TLC’s vice-presidents were out on assignment to get their own training both in leadership and in technical ropes course skills during the training and so I personally undertook the event and weekend, which proved to be very rewarding and a great deal of fun. TLC’s approach to the weekend to provide meals consisted of engaging select caterers such as Mary’s Tacos, Chic-fil-a, Dickey’s BBQ all of Kerrville and Vevere of Fredericksburg, Texas. The remainder of meals were provided by yours-truly, Ken Folsom and Jan Smith through two of our key food vendors being, H-E-B and Ben E. Keith. Along the way, I’d be remiss if I also did not acknowledge and thank Glenn Wilson and the entire Maintenance Crew for their many extras both in food service and facility preparations. All meals were prepared and served in TLC’s beautiful, Dining Hall where we enjoy a full commercial kitchen, appropriate barrier/sanitary conditions and serving capabilities to keep foods at appropriate temperatures while they are waiting to be enjoyed. Other than our vendor prepared meals, the group was treated during two day’s of breakfast to the CEO Breakfast Extravaganza, homemade pancakes, waffles and all the fixins and finally hickory smoked hamburgers off the smoker for the wrap-up luncheon. This was a paid event but doubled as an opportunity to introduce, engage, and inspire our future leaders in LIONS to the relevance and magic of the Texas Lions Camp mission. If you or someone you know is looking for an exceptional one-of-a-kind venue to take their group to the Next-Level, please feel free to reach out to TLC and speak with SVP, Steven King or me. You will find a new home at TLC as well as a prized, one-of-a-king experience in your journey to the Next-Level. Respectfully yours,
Stephen S. Mabry
